A woman has apologised to a clothing store in Thailand’s Rayong province and paid compensation after defecating inside a fitting room earlier this week.
The incident occurred on July 21 at a clothing store on Sukhumvit Road in Ban Chang district. The shop owner later lodged a police report after the customer left human waste inside the fitting room and did not initially return to accept responsibility.
According to Channel 7, 49-year-old shop assistant Joom said the woman first asked to use the toilet before picking up a pair of black shorts and entering a fitting room instead.
After the customer left, Joom noticed a strong odour and discovered the human waste. She said she photographed the registration number of the woman’s vehicle, while the store’s CCTV cameras also recorded the customer’s identity.
Compensation paid after police report
The shop owner had previously said legal action would be taken if the customer failed to come forward.
According to Workpoint News, the woman returned to the store early on July 23 to apologise to the employees and paid 2,000 baht to help cover cleaning costs.
Store manager Lay said the fitting room had already been cleaned on the day of the incident. However, the shop owner plans to replace the existing floor tiles.
Lay also said the woman denied consuming alcohol before the incident.
Customer cites medical condition
According to Lay, the customer explained that she was taking medication for depression and panic disorder, which she claimed had caused symptoms resembling intoxication.
Lay said the woman also claimed the medication could cause muscle weakness, dizziness, and a loss of bowel and bladder control, which she said led to the incident. These claims have not been independently verified.
Despite the unusual incident, Lay said the widespread attention on social media had brought more customers to the shop.
She added that many visitors had jokingly asked employees for lucky numbers to use when purchasing lottery tickets.
Lay also told Workpoint News that the outlet involved in the incident is branch number 25 of the company’s 27 stores.
