The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) today pushed back against Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan’s remarks, insisting that the party will not stay silent when the dignity of its community and coalition principles are at stake.
MIC deputy president M. Saravanan said the party has always spoken firmly and consistently.
“The real problem is not MIC’s silence, but Umno’s betrayal of coalition trust. To now lecture MIC on ‘speaking up,’ after Umno bulldozed its partners, misled the Istana, and ignored BN’s own resolutions, is not only unfair but deeply ironic,” he said.
Yesterday, Mohamad advised MIC to use the BN Supreme Council as the proper forum for airing grievances instead of issuing statements publicly.
Saravanan countered by citing multiple examples where BN’s key decisions bypassed the council, including Zahid Hamidi’s unilateral letter to the King after GE15, seat allocations for the six state elections, the Cabinet appointment of Johari Ghani, and the court ruling on Najib Razak’s “addendum.”
“When such crucial matters were never tabled, and when resolutions passed were never enforced, what value is there in the meetings Tok Mat is defending?” he asked.
Saravanan added that while he respects Mohamad Hasan as a friend, he cannot overlook his silence during critical times.
“Seeing this sudden concern about BN meetings, I honestly don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Still, I thank him for his advice,” he said.
