Former senior political secretary to the prime minister, Shamsul Iskandar Akin, has warned he will take legal action against anyone making excessive comments about his ongoing corruption case, including on social media.
His lawyer, Yusmadi Yusoff, told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur court complex that the case has just started. He urged the public to avoid speculation and allow the court to decide the matter.
Lawyer: Some Remarks Have Crossed the Line
Yusmadi said many online comments have gone too far. “Shamsul will not hesitate to act on remarks that exceed acceptable limits,” he stressed. He added that his client is fully cooperating and wants to prove his innocence through the proper legal process.
Cooperation with MACC and Plea for Truth
Shamsul told the press conference he has been proactive from the beginning and cooperated fully with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. “I pray we may arrive at the truth,” he said.
Earlier today, Shamsul pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to four corruption charges involving nearly RM177,000. He is accused of accepting cash and goods from businessman Albert Tei to help companies linked to Tei obtain mineral exploration licences in Sabah. Tei also faces four charges for giving the alleged bribes.
