Consulate issues safety warning
Consul-General Ahmad Fahmi Ahmad Sarkawi said persistent heavy rain has triggered widespread flooding in many parts of southern Thailand. “We urge Malaysians who are planning to visit the area to temporarily put off their trips until the situation improves,” he said in a statement released on Saturday.
Malaysians already in the affected provinces are advised to remain vigilant, monitor local weather updates, and follow instructions issued by Thai authorities.
Over 4,000 Malaysian tourists stranded
President of the Hatyai-Songkhla Hotel Association, Sitthipong Sitthiprapha, confirmed that more than 4,000 Malaysian tourists are currently stranded in hotels around Songkhla and Hatyai. The main route from Hatyai to the Sadao border checkpoint, a key exit point back to Malaysia, has been completely cut off by floodwaters since Friday night.
Local authorities have mobilised boats and supplied food to help move tourists to higher ground. While several vehicles belonging to Malaysian visitors have been submerged, no injuries or fatalities have been reported so far.
