A Bersatu MP has criticised PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for comparing the confidence and supply agreement (CSA) signed between the government and seven opposition MPs to the deception of the Dajjal.
Suhaimi Abdullah (PN-Langkawi), one of the six Bersatu MPs who signed the agreement last week, described the comparison as “grave” and said it could undermine national unity.
“How can we (as a nation) foster unity if opposition MPs are labelled ‘Dajjal’? This is unfortunate,” he said while debating the 2027 Budget.
Suhaimi also said his children had asked him about the Dajjal.
“I said I wasn’t sure and that I was looking into it,” he said.
The Dajjal is described in Islamic teachings as a great deceiver whose emergence is regarded as one of the major signs of the approaching Day of Judgment. He is also sometimes referred to as the anti-Christ.
Hadi likens CSA to Dajjal’s deception
In making the comparison yesterday, Hadi said Prophet Muhammad had warned that several “lesser Dajjals” would appear around the world before the emergence of the great Dajjal.
“A CSA is Dajjal-like as power is no longer regarded as a trust that must be upheld for the benefit of all, but instead becomes a means of coercing others to ensure the government remains in power,” the Marang MP was quoted as saying.
Agreement outlines funding and reforms
The CSA will provide the seven opposition MPs with access to constituency development funds, which government MPs have had for the past four years.
It also sets out two key reforms that Putrajaya is expected to undertake in exchange for their support: limiting the prime minister’s tenure and separating the roles of the attorney-general and public prosecutor before the end of the parliamentary term.
The other five Bersatu MPs who signed the agreement were Muhyiddin Yassin (Pagoh), Radzi Jidin (Putrajaya), Ali Biju (Saratok), Nazri Abu Hassan (Merbok) and Azman Nasrudin (Padang Serai).
Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman also signed the CSA.
