The Tawau High Court has convicted 13 teenagers, aged 16 to 19, for the murder of 17-year-old Nazmie Aizzat Narul Azwan at a vocational college in Lahad Datu in March of the previous year, according to a report by Harian Metro.
The court found all 13 defendants guilty under Section 302 of the Penal Code, in conjunction with Section 34, for culpable homicide committed with common intention.
Section 302 prescribes a penalty of death or imprisonment for 30 to 40 years, along with up to 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
Justice Duncan Sikodol scheduled sentencing for August 28.
In April 2024, the 13 youths were jointly charged with the murder of Nazmie, which occurred in a dormitory room at the college between 9 p.m. on March 21 and 7:35 a.m. on March 22.
The defense concluded its case on April 15, 2025, after presenting 18 witnesses. All 13 accused also provided sworn testimony from the witness stand.
