
Police have arrested three businessmen – a Datuk Seri and two Datuks linked to Bursa Malaysia-listed companies in connection with Op Northern Star, the ongoing probe into MBI International Group investment fraud scheme.
According to New Straits Times, Inspector-General of Police Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed that the arrests were made between July 26 and Aug 15 by the Anti-Money Laundering Criminal Investigation Unit (AMLA), following fresh leads.
Bukit Aman has so far seized assets worth a staggering RM6.6 billion. The latest seizures, also made between July 26 and Aug 15, included 88 bank accounts holding RM10.53 million and shares worth over RM86.85 million.
More individuals are expected to be called up for questioning in the coming weeks.
MBI lured hundreds of millions in deposits from investors, including from China, with promises of high returns. The scheme collapsed in Penang in 2018 but continued operations in Danok, Thailand, until its mastermind Tedy Teow was arrested in 2022.
