President Donald Trump has nominated Australian-American political commentator Nick Adams to serve as the next U.S. Ambassador to Malaysia, a move that has drawn both attention and scrutiny due to Adams’ outspoken persona and unconventional public profile.
Adams, who became a U.S. citizen in 2021, rose to prominence in 2016 when Trump publicly endorsed his book Green Card Warrior on social media, describing it as a “must read.” His nomination was formally submitted to the U.S. Senate on Wednesday, marking the start of the confirmation process.
A prolific author and conservative media figure, Adams has published six books, many of which offer strong criticism of President Joe Biden and high praise for Trump and former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, both of whom he characterizes as defenders of Western civilization.
Adams has also attracted public attention for his frequent social media posts expressing admiration for Hooters, a U.S.-based restaurant chain known for its sexualized branding. According to Politico, he tweeted about the franchise over 500 times in a span of four years.
In 2024, Adams released a book titled Alpha Kings, which offers lifestyle and leadership advice to young men on how to embody the traits of a “true alpha male.” Trump wrote the foreword for the book, further cementing his endorsement of Adams’ ideology and personal brand.
Before moving to the United States, Adams briefly served in local government in Australia. However, his political career was cut short after colleagues within the Liberal Party condemned his behavior and threatened him with suspension for actions deemed damaging to the party’s reputation.
Adams currently sits on the board of the Woodrow Wilson Center, a nonpartisan public policy think tank established by the U.S. Congress. He was appointed to the position by Trump in 2020.
In his nomination announcement, Trump praised Adams as “an incredible patriot and very successful entrepreneur,” adding that his “devotion to our Great Country is an inspiration.”
Adams responded with gratitude, stating that it would be “an honor to take the president’s goodwill and spread it to the great people of Malaysia.”
If confirmed by the Senate, Adams will replace Ambassador Edgard Kagan, a career diplomat appointed by President Joe Biden in May 2023.
