UMNO Subang division chief Dr Armand Azha Abu Hanifah has criticised the Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY) leadership for being shallow-minded and failing to understand the spirit of political cooperation within the Unity Government.
He said DAPSY leaders should uphold responsibility and mutual respect among coalition members, but recent remarks insulting UMNO leaders, particularly UMNO Youth chief Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh, who was likened to an animal were “uncivilised.”
“If they understand political cooperation, they should respect differences of opinion and respect parties within the government. But when they make rude and dishonourable remarks… if you don’t respect us, why should we respect you?” he said.
Armand added that the frequent public “barking” by DAP leaders, especially from DAPSY Selangor, reflected their lack of political maturity.
“Watch your words. Respect UMNO, and if you don’t respect UMNO, don’t expect us to respect you,” said Armand, who is also the Deputy President of the Malaysian Senators Council.
The dispute arose after several DAPSY leaders criticised Merlimau assemblyman Akmal for highlighting an incident where the Malaysian flag was displayed upside down, labelling him a “stray dog.”
