PKR’s Wong Chen has confirmed his resignation as Subang MP, with the resignation taking effect at 5pm today.
In a Facebook post, Wong said he met Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul last Wednesday to hand over his resignation letter.
He said the timing was intended to give parliamentary officers three working days to prepare for the vacancy in the Subang parliamentary seat.
Wong said he and Johari had reached a “gentleman’s agreement” not to disclose details of his resignation until today.
He also shared a copy of his resignation letter on Facebook.
“We shall also be removing the honorific title of Yang Berhormat from all our correspondence by next month,” he said.
Wong added that he would hold a press conference at 11am on Wednesday.
Resignation follows cryptic video
Minutes before announcing his resignation, Wong posted a 15-second video on Facebook showing him packing a stack of books into a box.
He did not provide further details in the post about his decision to resign.
Wong is one of three PKR MPs who were recently barred from accessing the MyKhas portal, which manages special constituency funding.
Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail was the latest of the three to be barred from the portal, while Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung had questioned why he was denied access.
Three MPs attended Bersama launch
All three MPs had attended the launch of the Bersama party in May.
The party was founded by former PKR leaders Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
Wong’s resignation will leave the Subang parliamentary seat vacant, with further details on his decision expected to be addressed at his press conference on Wednesday.
