YTL Corp Bhd executive chairman Francis Yeoh called the partnership with Nvidia’s visionary CEO Jensen Huang “a blessing”.
“We are honoured to play a role in driving productive AI adoption across the ASEAN region,” Yeoh told Business Times.
Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said the agreement signifies a major step in Malaysia’s AI journey. Backed by RM10 billion in investment, the project involves developing AI data centres, deploying Nvidia’s high-performance GPUs, and creating Malaysia’s own sovereign large language model (LLM).
“This project strengthens Malaysia’s digital sovereignty, enabling the development of AI solutions tailored to local languages and industries,” said Tengku Zafrul on X.
YTL Power will lead the infrastructure rollout and build an AI ecosystem by involving global firms and local suppliers.
The minister noted the deal stemmed from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s proactive international engagements, aimed at transforming Malaysia’s tech landscape.
