Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim has firmly stated in Penang that he has no intention of resigning, stressing he will only step down if proven guilty of wrongdoing.
“Insya-Allah, I will not step down,” Anwar declared on Saturday. “If I had stolen public funds and people demand my resignation, that’s fine. But I have not stolen anyone’s money. I’ve been Prime Minister for nearly three years—tell me, have we awarded any projects through direct negotiation? All projects go through an open tender process.”
He emphasized that any change in leadership should follow proper parliamentary channels.
“Use Parliament. If the opposition has the numbers, table a motion. That’s the proper way. If I lose, I will step down gracefully. That’s the peaceful way,” he said.
Anwar made the remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Teluk Kumbar MADANI Complex, joined by Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, and Penang Island City Council Mayor Datuk A. Rajendran.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to easing the cost of living and supporting low-income groups, Anwar highlighted initiatives such as raising the minimum wage, increasing support for rice farmers, expanding TVET programs, improving affordable housing for the B40 group, and raising civil service salaries.
He acknowledged that not all challenges can be solved in one term but underscored his administration’s dedication to long-term reform and national progress.
Anwar also announced an additional RM5 million in development funding for Penang’s Barat Daya district.
