Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) has announced plans to contest 15 state seats in the upcoming Johor election, positioning the contest as an opportunity to promote a new political approach focused on public issues and national development.
Party leaders Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the list of candidates will be revealed this Friday during the launch of the party’s “trak kancil” campaign vehicle.
According to a joint statement, the selected constituencies were identified through survey findings collected over the past six months.
Seat selection based on data and grassroots support
Rafizi and Nik Nazmi said the party’s decision was guided by several factors, including membership strength within parliamentary divisions and requests from party members in the respective constituencies.
They added that the selection process also took into account the suitability of potential candidates in Johor, including those who had expressed interest in contesting.
The party said it chose constituencies where it believes it has the capacity to run effective and meaningful election campaigns.
Volunteer-driven campaign model
To strengthen its grassroots operations, Bersama will open its integrated campaign system tomorrow, allowing supporters from across the country to register as election volunteers.
The party said it aims to introduce a modern campaign model that reduces heavy spending by mobilising volunteers nationwide to support campaigning efforts in the 15 targeted seats.
According to the statement, the approach is intended to maximise grassroots participation while maintaining campaign effectiveness.
Focus on people and the future
Rafizi and Nik Nazmi said the Johor election should not be viewed merely as a contest for positions and political influence.
Instead, they described it as an opportunity to cultivate a political culture centred on solving people’s problems and addressing issues affecting the country’s future.
The upcoming Johor election will see the country’s three major political coalitions — Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional — contest all 56 state seats.
