Six Bersatu MPs and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman have signed a Confidence and Supply Agreement (CSA) with the Madani government, pledging to support Budget 2027 and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration until the end of the current parliamentary term.
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said the agreement would entitle the party’s MPs to the same constituency development allocations received by government backbenchers.
The signing ceremony took place in Parliament on Thursday and was attended by Bersatu vice-president Ahmad Faizal Azumu, Putrajaya MP Radzi Jidin and Langkawi MP Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah, among others.
Support for Budget 2027
Muhyiddin said six Bersatu MPs had signed the agreement and would support Budget 2027, which is currently being debated in Parliament.
He said the agreement also covered institutional reforms, including proposals to limit the prime minister’s tenure to two terms and separate the powers of the attorney-general and public prosecutor.
“In return, the government has decided to provide our MPs with the same allocation for constituency development as that received by government MPs,” he told reporters after the signing ceremony.
Syed Saddiq, the Muda president and Muar MP, also signed the agreement, bringing the total number of signatories to seven from Bersatu and Muda.
Former Bersatu MPs among signatories
However, the government said the CSA involved 13 opposition MPs, including the six Bersatu lawmakers led by Muhyiddin and Syed Saddiq.
Malaysiakini reported that the remaining six MPs were former Bersatu lawmakers who had previously pledged their support for Anwar.
Anwar confirmed the signing ceremony in a Facebook post. The government was represented by Deputy Prime Minister II Fadillah Yusof, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Law and Institutional Reform Azalina Othman Said, and the prime minister’s senior political adviser Tengku Zafrul Aziz.
Reform proposals in exchange for support
Under the agreement, the MPs urged the government to introduce a two-term limit for the prime minister and separate the roles of the attorney-general and public prosecutor before the end of its term.
In return, the 13 opposition MPs will support Anwar’s administration until the end of the current parliamentary term and back Budget 2027.
