Bersatu President Muhyiddin Yassin has condemned alleged efforts to collect signatures to remove him from leadership, calling the move a violation of the party’s constitution. Speaking at Bersatu’s eighth annual general assembly on September 6, 2025, he warned that such tactics could destabilize the party’s entire leadership structure.
“If the president can be ousted through signature collection, then division chiefs, Armada, Srikandi, and Srikandi Youth leaders could face the same fate,” Muhyiddin said in his keynote address. “This approach contravenes our party’s constitution.”
The controversy follows reports of a poison-pen letter targeting Bersatu Deputy President Hamzah Zainudin, accusing him of plotting to overthrow Muhyiddin, according to Malaysiakini. In an earlier speech at the assembly, Hamzah denounced such tactics, describing the party as “one big family” and urging members to reject backstabbing and negative practices.
“There is no room for poison-pen letters or betrayal within Bersatu,” Hamzah said, emphasizing unity.
Muhyiddin stressed the importance of adhering to the party’s constitution to maintain unity and order. “Our party has clear rules and a constitution. If we want Bersatu to remain disciplined, proper, and harmonious, those rules must be respected,” he said.
The former prime minister called on members to end internal conflicts and focus on the party’s broader mission. “Stop the slander and avoid disputes among us. Discard traits that weaken our resolve,” he told delegates, warning that infighting could derail Bersatu’s momentum, as seen in other parties that collapsed due to division.
Reflecting on the party’s origins, Muhyiddin noted that Bersatu was founded on sacrifice and a commitment to national salvation, not on wealth or promises of power. “We began with nothing but a sincere spirit and a burning determination to save the country,” he said.
