A Bersatu leader has called for the expulsion of Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan following his public criticism of party secretary-general Azmin Ali, branding the remarks as irresponsible and harmful to the party’s reputation.
Telok Ayer Tawar assemblyman Azmi Alang, who serves as the Tasek Gelugor Bersatu chief, accused Wan Saiful of seeking publicity rather than serving the public. “Elected representatives like Wan Saiful should present facts and solutions, not resort to cheap rhetoric,” Azmi said in a statement on September 29, 2025.
Urging the party leadership to take decisive action, Azmi stated, “I call for stern measures, including his dismissal, to safeguard the integrity, discipline, and dignity of our struggle. Failure to act risks portraying Bersatu as weak and tolerant of conduct that undermines our cause.” He warned that such behavior distracts from critical issues and burdens the party in the long term, while providing political ammunition to rivals.
The call for action follows Wan Saiful’s claim that Azmin is unfit for leadership due to an unresolved 2019 controversy involving a leaked video allegedly depicting the former minister in homosexual acts. Wan Saiful, a Bersatu Supreme Council member, emphasized that moral scandals are unacceptable in the party.
Additionally, Wan Saiful announced plans to refer both Azmin and Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz to the party’s disciplinary board, alleging they threatened division leaders linked to a supposed plot to oust party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
