The understanding reached between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the Negri Sembilan state election is aimed at ensuring political stability in the state, according to Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
Speaking after the nomination process for the Serting, Palong, Jeram Padang and Bahau state seats at the Jempol District Administration Complex, Asyraf said the immediate priority is to secure victories for coalition candidates across all 36 state constituencies.
Campaign focused on stability and public interest
He said both coalitions have reached a common understanding to focus on winning in every constituency they contest.
According to Asyraf, the campaign will be conducted prudently, with the emphasis on what the coalition can offer the people rather than political rhetoric.
He said BN hopes to deliver the best for the people of Negri Sembilan, similar to its approach in Johor, stressing that political stability remains the foundation of its campaign.
Asyraf also noted that while the understanding is important for the Malay-Muslim community, it must also reflect the reality that Negri Sembilan is a multi-racial and multi-religious state.
Three key contests
In Palong, incumbent Mustapha Nagoor of BN will face Muhammad Zahin Zinal Abidin of PH and Rebin Birham of Bersatu in a three-cornered contest.
Jeram Padang will see BN’s Mohd Zaidy Abdul Kadir contesting against G. Manivannan of PH, R. Sri Sanjeevan of Bersatu and Dayana Dal of Parti Orang Asli Malaysia in a four-cornered fight.
Meanwhile, Bahau will feature a straight fight between MCA’s Chong Fui Ming, representing BN, and PH candidate Teo Kok Seong.
