Barisan Nasional (BN) has retained both the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat and the Lamag state seat in today’s by-elections, Umno Youth chief Akmal Saleh declared.
In a Facebook post, Akmal wrote, ‘Alhamdulilah, BN retains Kinabatangan and Lamag. Thank you everyone.’
BN Leads With Significant Majorities
Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said that BN was leading in the Kinabatangan contest with a majority of 9,723 votes.
He added that the coalition was also leading in the Lamag state seat race with a majority of 2,093 votes.
By-Elections Triggered by Incumbent’s Death
The by-elections were triggered by the death of the incumbent, Bung Moktar Radin, 66, in early December.
Naim, who contested on the BN ticket, is Bung’s son.
The official results are expected to be announced by returning officer Eddy Syaizul Rizam Abdullah at 10 p.m. at the earliest.
