DAP is aiming to defend all 11 state seats it currently holds in the Negri Sembilan state election on Aug 1, while supporting its Pakatan Harapan partners in their bid to capture additional constituencies.
Negri Sembilan DAP secretary Cha Kee Chin said the party would rely on its service record and performance to retain voter support.
“We cannot be complacent. Instead, we must continue to work hard to maintain a convincing victory,” he said.
DAP backs PH push for Paroi and Labu
Cha, who is also the Rasah MP, said DAP would fully support Pakatan Harapan’s efforts to win the Paroi and Labu state seats from Perikatan Nasional.
He noted that Paroi, the state constituency with the largest number of registered voters in Negri Sembilan, is expected to be contested by Amanah, while PKR is expected to contest Labu.
“We need to wrest the Paroi and Labu state seats. If we succeed, PH will be able to form the state government on the night of Aug 1,” he said.
Party machinery urged to stay focused
Cha called on party members and election machinery to remain united and continue working hard throughout the campaign.
He stressed that teamwork would be essential to securing victory for all Pakatan Harapan candidates.
“PH needs to win this state election to continue the state’s development agenda and citizen welfare programmes,” he said.
PH and BN to contest separately
In the previous Negri Sembilan state election, Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional jointly formed the state government after winning a combined 31 of the 36 seats.
Pakatan Harapan secured 17 seats, while Barisan Nasional won 14. Perikatan Nasional captured the remaining five seats.
For this election, however, Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional are contesting separately, with both coalitions reportedly fielding candidates in all 36 state constituencies.
