Former Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin has challenged Muhyiddin Yassin’s authority to prevent him from rejoining Perikatan Nasional.
Questioning one-man decision
Hamzah said Muhyiddin seemed to act as though he held absolute power over PN membership.
He stressed that approval for joining PN comes from all component parties, not from a single leader.
“He says I cannot be a PN member. Who is he to decide?” Hamzah asked.
“If I can join PN, will he resign? If he says yes, I will do my best to join PN so he can step down,” he was quoted as saying after an event in Port Dickson last night.
Hamzah suggested Muhyiddin should follow the example of Umno founder Onn Ja’afar, who resigned as president when many leaders disagreed with his views.
Muhyiddin had reportedly stated he would oppose any attempt by Hamzah to rejoin PN through a new party.
Move to take over party
Hamzah confirmed he has held discussions on taking over Parti Keluarga Malaysia.
The party’s founder, Khairi Jaya, had earlier described the takeover as “90% confirmed”.
Hamzah, the Larut MP, was sacked from Bersatu on February 13 following a leadership tussle with Muhyiddin.
