The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) is preparing for heavier traffic on highways as more than 300,000 voters are expected to travel to Johor for Saturday’s state election.
LLM chairman Hasni Mohammad advised motorists travelling to or through Johor to plan their journeys carefully to minimise congestion on the state’s main routes.
He said all highway lane closure works would be suspended on polling day to help ensure smoother and safer travel for road users.
“LLM also urges motorists to use the TuJu app to plan their travel, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and maintain sufficient balances in their Touch ‘n Go accounts, e-wallets and debit cards,” he said.
Motorists were also reminded to observe speed limits, drive cautiously, follow instructions when smart lanes are activated, and use designated rest and service areas or lay-bys when taking breaks.
Traffic updates and highway incident information will be available through LLM’s official Facebook page, TikTok account @llmtrafik, the traffic management centre at 1-800-88-7752, the official LLM website, and the LLM Info Trafik WhatsApp channel.
Seremban roads to close for election simulation
Meanwhile, several major roads in Seremban city centre will be closed and traffic diverted in stages on Thursday and Friday to facilitate a post-election simulation for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election.
The simulation will be held at the Seremban City Council Hall on Jalan Yam Tuan.
Seremban police chief Yatim Osman said road closures would take place from 3pm to 5pm on Thursday for a rehearsal, and from 3pm to 5.30pm on Friday for the full simulation.
Alternative routes for motorists
The affected roads include Jalan Yam Tuan, Jalan Dato’ Sheikh Ahmad, Lorong Khalsa and Jalan Lim Kee Siong.
Traffic diversions will also be implemented at the junctions of Jalan Tuanku Hassan and Jalan Yam Tuan, Jalan Lee Fong Yee and Jalan Yam Tuan, Jalan Lim Kee Siong and Jalan Jawa, as well as Lorong Khalsa and Lorong Jawa.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes via Jalan Dato’ Abdul Malik, Jalan Tuanku Hassan, Jalan Tuanku Munawir and Jalan Dato’ Abdul Kadir.
Yatim also urged the public to avoid the affected areas during the closure period, comply with instructions from traffic police officers, and plan their journeys in advance to reduce congestion.
Polling for the Negeri Sembilan state election is scheduled for Aug 1, while nomination day has been set for July 18.
