The Malaysian passport has risen to second place in The Passport Index Global Ranking 2026, moving up from third place last year.
The Immigration Department said the achievement reflects the strength and international acceptance of the Malaysian passport.
Malaysian passport holders gain access to 175 destinations
‘Based on the ranking, Malaysian passport holders have access to 175 destinations, comprising 129 visa-free destinations and 46 destinations with visa-on-arrival, while 23 destinations require a visa,’ it said in a social media post.
The ranking is based on data from Passport Index, with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) passport retaining the top spot in the Passport Power Rank.
Singapore and Malaysia are ranked second, followed by Spain in third place.
16 countries share fourth place
Meanwhile, 16 other countries share fourth place in the ranking.
They include Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Norway.
