Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz has called on PAS to leave Perikatan Nasional (PN) and either operate independently or establish a new political coalition.
He said PAS could consider reviving cooperation with Umno through Muafakat Nasional (MN) or explore a new alliance involving Parti Wawasan.
“PAS should leave and form its own coalition as its actions are increasingly affecting the stability and image of PN,” he said in a Facebook post.
Claims PAS is affecting PN’s stability
Tun Faisal argued that PAS had become more of a burden than a strength to the coalition, citing what he described as a lack of commitment, delays in decision-making and actions that undermined PN’s political interests.
“To save PN, PAS should exit voluntarily and use its own brand and logo. Only then can PN maintain its identity and be better prepared for the next general election,” he said.
He added that Bersatu should continue leading PN together with other component parties, including Ikatan Prihatin Rakyat (IPR), to preserve the coalition’s continuity and branding.
Concerns over political engagements outside PN
Tun Faisal pointed to PAS’s involvement in political discussions outside the PN framework, including the so-called “Bangkok Move”, as well as its repeated interest in reviving MN with Umno.
He also claimed that PAS had shown limited commitment to the PN brand through its continued use of party logos in Kelantan and Terengganu, while similar suggestions had reportedly emerged in Johor.
According to him, such actions raised concerns about the party’s commitment to the coalition’s collective identity.
Rumours of PAS-Umno talks
Tun Faisal further said that if reports of discussions between PAS and Umno were accurate, and if PAS intended not to contest in Johor in exchange for appointed state assembly positions, then it would be more appropriate for the party to leave PN and join MN.
“If these rumours are true, it would not be appropriate for PAS to continue chairing PN,” he said.
