Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has called on Malaysians of all backgrounds to safeguard national unity and reject attempts by certain leaders to incite racial divisions for political purposes.
He said Malaysia’s multicultural society remains one of the country’s greatest strengths, provided it is supported by mutual respect, understanding and cooperation among all communities.
“Some leaders want us to hate one another, Malays against Chinese, Chinese against Indians, Indians against Malays. We must rise above this.
“Today, Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans and others are united and working together as one strong force,” he said at a dinner organised by Pertubuhan Lima Generasi (PLG) Malaysia.
More than 1,000 members attended the event, including Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun.
Unity key to national progress
Anwar also urged Malaysians, especially young people, to play an active role in shaping the country’s future through cooperation and consensus among its multiracial communities.
He said national development must be built on unity, while efforts to advance in areas such as artificial intelligence and digital transformation should continue.
At the same time, he stressed that values, ethics and personal integrity must remain central to the country’s progress.
Youth encouraged to drive change
The prime minister said younger generations have an important role in driving positive change and helping to build a stronger and more inclusive Malaysia.
He noted that technological and economic progress alone would not be sufficient without a strong foundation of shared values and social cohesion.
Focus on long-term national security
Reflecting on his recent working visits to Kazan and Turkmenistan, Anwar said his priority was to protect Malaysia’s long-term interests, particularly in ensuring future energy and fuel security.
“I want to protect the country for the future. I am no longer young, but I want to leave behind a safe and secure nation so that our children will not be burdened by problems such as shortages of oil or gas,” he said.
Anwar led the Malaysian delegation to the Asean-Russia Commemorative Summit in Kazan from June 17 to 18 before travelling to Turkmenistan at the invitation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
