Businessman Nicky Liow is neither a member of PKR nor has he ever applied to join the party, secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said.
Fuziah said she ordered a review of the party’s membership records after questions were raised over Liow’s appearance at a PKR event two days ago.
‘I can confirm that Liow Soon Hee, also known as Nicky Liow, is not on the party’s membership list,’ she told FMT.
‘His name is also not on the list of those who have applied to become members.’
Clarification follows event appearance
Fuziah’s statement came after a photograph circulated showing Liow with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim at a recent party event.
Liow was also seen wearing a PKR Youth shirt bearing the party’s logo, prompting questions over his association with the party.
Liow previously faced criminal charges
In April 2022, Liow was charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court with 26 counts of money laundering involving RM36 million.
He had spent a year in hiding after police launched a crackdown on his alleged gang over claims of involvement in Macau Scam activities.
While still in hiding, Liow was charged in absentia with being a member of an organised crime group. He was later granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA).
