Perikatan Nasional (PN) and PAS are expected to contest between seven and 10 seats in the upcoming Melaka state election, said PN deputy chairman Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
Tuan Ibrahim, who is also PAS deputy president, said PN and Umno had discussed seat allocations and drawn up a basic framework for the election.
PN, Umno work on seat allocation framework
‘We have a framework, but it needs to be brought to our respective parties for endorsement,’ the New Straits Times quoted him as saying today.
The Kubang Kerian MP said the negotiations were based on an understanding that parties would retain seats they had previously won.
‘For example, Umno considers a seat it previously won as belonging to it, even if the candidate has since joined PAS. We are trying to understand this principle. There may be room for changes,’ he said.
PAS prepares potential candidates
Tuan Ibrahim also said PAS had instructed its Melaka commissioner to compile a list of potential candidates for review by the party’s syura council.
The council is scheduled to meet on Friday to determine the candidates’ eligibility.
The final list is expected to be decided in Perlis on Oct 2.
EC to discuss Melaka election arrangements
The Election Commission is scheduled to meet on Oct 7 to discuss arrangements for the Melaka election following the dissolution of the state legislative assembly on Sept 23.
