Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen has urged the state government to reveal its complete financial obligations, including total debt, annual repayments, and interest costs.
He questioned why the GPS administration remains tight-lipped about yearly debt-servicing figures.
The Padungan assemblyman stressed that transparency is vital after recent hikes in land premiums, assessment rates, water tariffs, and new charges.
Public Funds Require Public Accountability
Chong reminded the Gabungan Parti Sarawak government that it is merely the custodian of public money and owes full accountability to Sarawakians.
He criticised Premier Abang Johari Openg’s car-loan analogy, saying even families need to know interest rates and monthly instalments before borrowing.
The state DAP chief accused the premier of dodging the core issue of openness.
The GPS government should not take an arrogant stance by refusing to disclose total borrowings, yearly repayment amounts, and interest burden, Chong added.
He insisted Sarawakians have every right to know how their money is being managed.
