Sarawak’s revenue performance in the first six months of this year has been encouraging, with the figure among the highest ever recorded for the corresponding period, says Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg.
Without disclosing the amount, he said the strong revenue performance had given the state government confidence to announce special financial assistance equivalent to two months’ salary for state civil servants.
“I have received the report for the first six months and it is quite encouraging. I cannot disclose the figure now, so wait until the state budget is tabled.
“But today, I dare to announce a two-month bonus for civil servants and others who have worked hard because I have seen all the figures,” Bernama quoted him as saying after officiating at the Sarikei Division Sarawakku Sayang Programme 2026 in Sarikei today.
Sarikei development to focus on three sectors
Meanwhile, Abang Johari said the state government would focus on developing Sarikei through the tourism, green economy and high-value agriculture sectors until 2030.
He said Sarikei’s extensive mangrove forests had the potential to become an important asset in the global carbon economy.
Efforts were also being made to extend the runway at Tanjung Manis Airport to enable ATR aircraft operated by AirBorneo to land there, he added.
More dialysis machines for Sarikei Hospital
The Premier also announced the addition of 10 dialysis machines at Sarikei Hospital in response to the increasing number of patients.
