A total of 59 people, including 42 foreign women, were arrested during Ops Noda raids on six entertainment and reflexology premises suspected of offering prostitution services in the Klang Valley on Thursday.
The operation, which began at about 10.30pm, was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters in collaboration with local authorities and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
Raids were conducted at premises in Klang, Petaling Jaya, Kajang and Kuala Langat.
A source said the six premises were believed to have been operating entertainment and prostitution activities by offering foreign women to customers.
59 people arrested, various items seized
Those arrested comprised two locals, 39 Myanmar nationals, 12 Thais, five Vietnamese and one Indonesian.
Police also seized various items, including mobile phones, condoms, wet wipes, audio equipment and cash.
Preliminary investigations indicated that foreign nationals were allegedly involved in entertainment and prostitution activities at the premises.
In a statement, the CID said the integrated operation also involved enforcement action by local authorities and TNB against the premises.
The local authorities seized the premises, while TNB disconnected their electricity supply.
Investigations under Penal Code and Immigration Act
Several investigation papers have been opened, including investigations under Section 372B of the Penal Code for allegedly offering prostitution services.
The cases are also being investigated under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for overstaying and Section 6(1)(c) of the same Act for entering the country without a valid permit.
All those arrested and the seized items were subsequently taken to the Petaling Jaya, Kajang, Klang Utara and Kuala Langat district police headquarters for further action.
The CID said it would continue taking proactive action to eradicate criminal activities in society, including prostitution.
The public has also been urged to channel information on criminal activities to the authorities so that preventive and enforcement action can be taken promptly.
Police reminded premises owners to comply with the law and avoid engaging in activities that could result in severe penalties.
