A 20-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing a Chinese national to death inside an apartment in Sattahip district after finding him with his girlfriend.
Thanachot, a 20-year-old student at a college in Chonburi, was arrested at around 9.50am after fleeing towards Pattaya. He later contacted police and surrendered after learning that the Chinese man had died.
Thanachot reportedly had a cut wound to his abdomen when he surrendered.
Suspect says he found unfamiliar man in girlfriend’s room
During initial questioning, Thanachot told police that he had worked overnight as a security guard at an entertainment venue in Pattaya before returning to his girlfriend’s apartment in the morning.
He said he opened the room and found an unfamiliar man lying on the bed.
Thanachot allegedly confronted the man while holding a knife to intimidate him. CCTV footage reportedly showed the suspect leaving the scene.
According to Thanachot, the Chinese man attempted to grab the knife and allegedly tried to attack him.
The two then struggled and choked each other before Thanachot regained control of the knife and stabbed the man.
Police investigate circumstances of fatal stabbing
Thanachot claimed that he did not intend to kill the man before fleeing towards Pattaya.
He later decided to surrender after learning that the Chinese man had died.
Police have charged Thanachot with intentional murder and are continuing their investigation.
The victim was identified as Cao Ke, 20, a Chinese national. Authorities are checking his information and attempting to locate his relatives.
Investigators will question witnesses and examine forensic evidence to establish exactly what happened inside the apartment before proceeding with the case.
