Police have confirmed that the death of a college student found hanging from a ceiling fan in her Subang Jaya home last Thursday was a case of murder, ruling out suicide.
Subang Jaya District Police Chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said a post-mortem conducted at Hospital Serdang revealed bleeding around the hyoid bone in the neck, consistent with manual strangulation.
“The victim’s muscle and bone injuries were caused by manual strangulation. The case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
The incident came to light after the victim’s father discovered her body hanging from a ceiling fan in the second-floor living room of their home in USJ 2/1, before alerting police at 11:55am. Medical personnel confirmed her death at the scene.
Wan Azlan said investigations are ongoing to determine the motive and other details. He urged the public not to spread unverified claims on social media that may disrupt investigations.
