Perikatan Nasional (PN) deputy chairman Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has urged Bersatu to withdraw from the coalition after its president, Muhyiddin Yassin, questioned plans to take disciplinary action against his party.
Muhyiddin had asked yesterday why Bersatu should face disciplinary action when it had not violated any rules. He also said Bersatu was the party that reported alleged violations by PAS within PN to the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
Tuan Ibrahim, who is also PAS deputy president, said Muhyiddin had effectively answered his own question.
‘The answer (to Muhyiddin’s question) is already in his remarks. Bersatu does not need to try to dissolve PN or take all sorts of actions to weaken the coalition.
‘It would be better for Bersatu to withdraw from PN. They were the ones who lodged a complaint with the RoS, but now they are the ones expressing sadness when the RoS deregistered PN,’ he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
Court suspends PN deregistration
The High Court on Thursday stayed the RoS decision to deregister PN pending the full disposal of the coalition’s judicial review against the authority.
Muhyiddin had said the RoS decision to deregister PN showed that wrongdoing had occurred within the coalition, while Bersatu had complied with the rules by reporting the matter to the registrar.
Tuan Ibrahim said the proposed disciplinary action against Bersatu had been referred to PN’s supreme council, which would deliberate on the matter and decide on the appropriate action.
PN reviews alleged violations
PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said on Sunday that disciplinary action would be taken against Bersatu for allegedly violating the coalition’s constitution, including by contesting against PN in the Negeri Sembilan election.
He said PN would examine several actions by Bersatu that allegedly went against the coalition’s interests before finalising the charges against the party.
