Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz has accused certain PAS leaders, whom he referred to as the “Publika cluster”, of failing to practise the Islamic values they publicly advocate.
In a Facebook post, Tun Faisal outlined several grievances that Bersatu allegedly holds against PAS, including the party’s decision to invite sanctioned Bersatu leaders to its events and feature their images on banners and promotional materials.
The leaders in question are aligned with former Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin, who was expelled from the party in February during a leadership dispute with party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
Bersatu raises concerns over PAS actions
Tun Faisal claimed PAS never consulted Bersatu before inviting the affected leaders to its programmes, describing the move as insensitive because Bersatu had already taken disciplinary action against them for allegedly violating party rules.
He also alleged that PAS did not discuss efforts to revive its Muafakat Nasional alliance with Umno with Bersatu, including during meetings of the Perikatan Nasional Supreme Council.
In addition, he accused PAS of delaying amendments to the Perikatan Nasional constitution and the appointment of a new opposition leader following Hamzah’s removal from Bersatu.
Tun Faisal criticises ‘Publika cluster’
According to Tun Faisal, these incidents were only a few examples of Bersatu’s concerns, adding that there were other unresolved issues and unfulfilled promises involving PAS.
He further alleged that some PAS leaders regularly speak about Muslim unity while acting inconsistently with those principles.
Tun Faisal said he believed Bersatu was not difficult to work with, but argued that cooperation was more challenging with individuals whose actions did not reflect the Islamic teachings they publicly promote.
He also urged PAS leaders to adhere to what he described as the true morals and teachings of Islam if they genuinely wished to preserve brotherhood and unity among Muslims.
Response follows PAS call for continued friendship
Tun Faisal’s remarks came in response to comments by PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who said the party’s decision to end political cooperation with Bersatu did not mean all ties with the Muhyiddin-led party had been severed.
Tuan Ibrahim said the friendship between PAS and Bersatu should continue and appealed for both parties to remain united for the sake of the ummah.
