MCA president Wee Ka Siong has described it as ‘premature’ for Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to say that yesterday’s meeting between the party and BN leaders had produced a positive outcome.
In a statement, Wee said no agreement had been reached despite a cordial meeting with Zahid, BN secretary-general Zambry Abd Kadir and Melaka BN chief Ab Rauf Yusoh.
MCA still dissatisfied with seat allocation
Wee said he had conveyed MCA’s dissatisfaction over the allocation of seats for the Melaka state election during the meeting.
‘As for Zahid’s claim that the outcome (of the meeting) was positive, I believe we are still a long way from achieving such objectives and it would be premature to describe it as such,’ he said.
‘Both sides need to continue the discussions, and I hope we can make a breakthrough within the next day or two.’
MCA leadership to decide next move
Wee said any decision on MCA’s next course of action and its final position on the state election would be discussed and decided collectively by the party’s central leadership.
Earlier today, Zahid said MCA would not sit out the Nov 14 polls.
His statement came after MCA leaders staged a walkout when BN announced its candidates for the state election. MCA was unhappy that seats it had contested previously were allocated to other parties without proper consultation.
Zahid declined to disclose details of his meeting with Wee, saying Ab Rauf would announce them.
