The Coroner’s Court in Kota Kinabalu has scheduled an inquest into the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir, with proceedings set to begin in September to determine if any criminal elements were involved.
Coroner Azreena Aziz, the Sabah State Court director, set the dates during a case mention on Monday. The inquest is scheduled to take place on September 3-4, 8-12, 17-19, and 22-30.
Security was tight at the court compound for the mention, with police officers stationed outside the courthouse to maintain order. Media personnel had started gathering as early as 8 a.m. to cover the case.
The proceedings were attended by a legal team representing the deceased’s mother, Noraidah Lamat, along with a prosecution team led by a Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP).
The legal representatives present included Hamid Ismail, Shahlan Jufri, Rizwandean M. Borhan, Mohd Luqman Syazwan Zabidi, Mohd Syarulnizam Mohd Salleh, and Farrah Nasser.
