Barisan Nasional remains confident of retaining control in Johor and Melaka in the upcoming state elections by steering clear of three-cornered fights with its unity government partners.
Umno Supreme Council member Ahmad Maslan said this optimism stems from effective initiatives rolled out by both state and federal governments, alongside the party’s ongoing internal strengthening efforts.
Strong Performance Expected
“If in Johor we could win 40 out of 56 seats back in the 2022 state election, there is no reason why, with the combined efforts of the Johor state government, the federal Madani government, and Umno’s internal consolidation under president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, we cannot secure 21 out of 28 seats in Melaka and 40 out of 56 in Johor,” he told reporters.
Ahmad, who is also deputy works minister, spoke after launching a dinner event last night held in conjunction with the Madani Youth Empowerment Programme through AI Technology and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, organised by Gabungan Pelajar Melayu Semenanjung here.
Focus on Own Strength
He stressed that the party machinery must keep working hard right up to polling day.
Ahmad reminded Umno members not to grow complacent because of problems within rival parties.
Instead, he urged everyone to concentrate on building up Umno’s own capabilities.
He emphasised that true victories should come from the party’s strengths, not from the shortcomings of others.
Ahmad called for sustained efforts to further solidify Umno’s position in both states.
