Barisan Nasional (BN) will allocate positions in the Melaka state executive council to Perikatan Nasional (PN) if their alliance wins the Nov 14 state election, says BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Zahid said the arrangement was in line with the electoral cooperation agreed upon by both coalitions and would follow a similar approach to their alliance in Negeri Sembilan, Berita Harian reported.
“We will take the same approach and invite PN representatives who win their seats to be a part of the state government, if we form the government,” he said.
The Umno president said BN and PN had signed a memorandum of understanding for the Melaka polls, under which both coalitions had agreed to mobilise their respective election machinery and supporters to back each other’s candidates.
Leaders to address grassroots concerns
Zahid acknowledged that some ‘issues’ could arise at the grassroots level because the agreement had been finalised relatively late.
“Therefore, leaders of both coalitions will go down to the ground to coordinate and refine our machinery’s workflow at the relevant localities, polling districts, and constituencies,” he said.
BN is contesting 23 of the 28 state seats, while PN will field candidates in the remaining five.
BN-PN alliance in Negeri Sembilan
In the Negeri Sembilan state election, BN contested 25 seats while PN fielded 11 candidates.
The alliance secured a two-thirds majority in the state assembly, winning 25 of the 36 seats contested.
