The Health Ministry of Malaysia aims to implement a comprehensive ban on vape products by mid-2026, according to Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad. Speaking to reporters after launching the National Blueprint for Behavioural Insights in Health, he outlined a phased approach to the prohibition.
“We are targeting the middle of 2026, ideally in the first half of the year, though it could extend to the second half,” Dzulkefly said. “While I cannot preempt the cabinet’s decision, multiple factors are under consideration, but our commitment to banning vaping is firm.”
An expert committee is currently examining the issue, preparing detailed findings and recommendations for cabinet review. On September 11, Dzulkefly noted that the ministry is finalizing a cabinet memorandum on the proposed ban, though specifics remain undisclosed pending deliberation.
In a written reply in the Dewan Negara on September 10, Dzulkefly announced that the government plans a staged ban on electronic cigarettes and vape products to address their misuse. The process will begin with a prohibition on open-system vape devices, progressively extending to all vape products until the entire category is banned.
