Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin has urged all participants of the upcoming “Turun Anwar” rally scheduled to take place in the capital on July 26 to uphold proper decorum and avoid any form of provocation that could disrupt public order.
The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president also called on the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to ensure public safety and security throughout the duration of the gathering.
“I urge all participants to remain courteous and abide by the law. Do not engage in any actions that may provoke or disturb public order.
Remember, the right to participate in a peaceful assembly is guaranteed to every Malaysian under the Federal Constitution, and no one has the authority to deny this right,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Muhyiddin stated that he, along with PN leaders, would join the people at the rally to voice their stance on what they consider the failings of the government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said that many promises made by the Prime Minister had yet to be fulfilled, particularly concerning the rising cost of living affecting Malaysians.
“Not only has the government failed to address the burden of living costs, it has also introduced numerous new taxes while cutting subsidies. This has further worsened the hardships faced by the people.
Furthermore, the government’s promise to uphold freedom of expression has been violated, with an increasing number of ordinary citizens being intimidated, investigated, and even prosecuted simply for voicing dissent against government policies,” he added.
The former prime minister also criticised the government’s recent announcement of a one-off RM100 cash aid under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme and the six-sen reduction in RON95 petrol prices, describing them as desperate measures to placate public anger.
“These are not real solutions. What the people truly want is a review of the various taxes and subsidy cuts that have been burdening them. Unfortunately, this has not been done,” he stressed.
Muhyiddin therefore urged Malaysians to join the peaceful rally as a show of solidarity in demanding justice and relief from the ongoing economic pressures faced by the public.
