PAS assemblymen in Perlis will not join the state executive committee despite an invitation from menteri besar Abu Bakar Hamzah.
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the party has issued a clear directive to its lawmakers.
Firm Party Stance
“The party has decided and instructed all PAS assemblymen in Perlis to follow this position. We stand by it,” Tuan Ibrahim told FMT.
He noted PAS actions against those who signed statutory declarations withdrawing support for previous menteri besar Shukri Ramli.
“PAS will not back anyone who signed SDs to undermine our leadership.”
Rejection of Invitation
Tuan Ibrahim commented on Abu Bakar’s recent invitation to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for assemblymen to join the exco.
Abu Bakar’s current lineup includes four Bersatu assemblymen, due for swearing-in at Istana Arau tomorrow.
Background to Crisis
On December 30, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan announced the party’s exco members would resign in support of Shukri, who stepped down for health reasons.
Takiyuddin confirmed PAS would decline any posts in Abu Bakar’s new lineup.
The appointment followed a crisis where eight Perikatan Nasional assemblymen, including three from PAS, submitted SDs to the ruler against Shukri.
PAS has terminated the memberships of those three assemblymen.
