Claims suggesting that Nurul Izzah Anwar has resigned as the deputy president of PKR have been officially dismissed as fake news. The party’s information chief, Fahmi Fadzil, refuted the rumours when contacted, providing a brief but clear clarification to end the growing speculation.
The denial comes after unverified reports regarding the alleged resignation of the former Permatang Pauh member of parliament began circulating widely on social media earlier today. The spread of these claims had prompted questions regarding the status of the party’s top leadership.
Leadership mandate and recent polls
Nurul Izzah, who is the daughter of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, currently holds the mandate as deputy president for the 2025-2028 term. Her position was solidified during the party polls held last year, where she received a strong majority from the grassroots members.
In that election, she contested the deputy presidency in a straight fight against the incumbent, Rafizi Ramli. The results saw her securing 9,803 votes compared to the 3,866 votes obtained by her opponent.
Following that electoral outcome, Rafizi Ramli subsequently stepped down from his role as the economy minister. Despite the recent wave of online speculation, party officials maintain that there have been no changes to the current leadership structure involving the deputy presidency.
