Fresh controversy has emerged involving former economy minister Rafizi Ramli after a senior PKR Youth leader urged him to publicly clarify allegations linked to the alleged RM8.6 million acquisition of Parti Bersama Malaysia.
Angkatan Muda Keadilan information chief Danish Hairudin said such clarification was necessary to prevent speculation involving foreign funding and alleged betrayal of national interests from spreading further.
According to Danish, questions regarding the source of funds allegedly connected to the takeover or purchase of the political party should be answered transparently to address growing public concern.
“However, I do not wish to comment further on the Bersama party itself. That is his right, whether he wants to buy it, rent it monthly or take it over for free,” he said in a statement.
Questions raised over Bersama leadership
Danish also referred to Rafizi’s own remarks in a podcast, where he reportedly stated that Bersama president Syukri Razab had previously served as his officer during his time at the ministry.
He said the matter should therefore be addressed directly by the Bersama president to allow a proper explanation to be given publicly.
The issue gained wider attention after communications minister Fahmi Fadzil reposted a social media video alleging that Rafizi had “purchased” Bersama for RM8.6 million.
Allegations spark wider political concerns
In the video, an unidentified speaker questioned the source of the alleged funds and accused Rafizi of having ulterior motives against PKR.
The allegations later expanded into broader claims involving possible foreign financial influence in Malaysia’s domestic political landscape.
Previously, Sekretariat Gerak Gempur Media Sosial Rakyat political bureau chairman Shahbudin Embun described the allegations involving foreign funding as serious, warning that external interference in local politics could threaten national sovereignty.
MACC scrutiny adds pressure
The controversy comes as Rafizi is already facing scrutiny from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission over allegations involving abuse of power and irregularities tied to a RM1.1 billion investment arrangement between the Economy Ministry and UK-based semiconductor company Arm Holdings under a strategic industry cooperation agreement.
So far, no formal charges have been filed against Rafizi in relation to either issue.
